“Particular attention should be paid to raising effective retirement ages …
Despite the continuous rise in life expectancy over the past decades, effective retirement ages have in fact decreased. The effective average age of withdrawal from the labour market for men in the euro area now ranges between 58 and 64 years, with women retiring earlier. As a consequence, the average time that pensioners spend in retirement has increased to roughly 20 years, up from around 13 years in the 1960s.”
