When Harry met Teddy: “As a striker you have got to score goals”.
It was the advice that Teddy gave to Harry.
Teddy is Sheringham.
Harry is Kane. Hurricane. Nome omen.
Harry followed Teddy’s advice. Literally.
That's the reason why we have Harry - after Alan - in our gallery: Harry broke Alan’s record for the most goals in a calendar year. A tribute to Harry, who met Pochettino instead of Sally.
Alan commented the new record with his style, paying a homage to Harry: “If I wanted anyone to overhaul my total [i.e. 260 goals in England's top division] it would be a young English striker”.
Harry Kane is young (he is only 24) and English, very English (his 2nd name is Edward!).
By the way, he has no visible tattoos, no fashion hairstyle, no nightclubbing, he is only 24 but he already has a daughter: a serious man. Like Alan.
Quoting Mario Puzo: “A man who doesn't spend time with his family can never be a real man”.
But Alan said something more, something which claims respect for his past choices as a man, the proud son of the working class.
Alan poses the accent on himself, on his unique feature in the football circus based on money: the courage to refuse: “If they [i.e. the Spurs] don’t win anything in the next two years, Kane could have a big decision to make and there will be no lack of suitors with big money wanting him”.
Alan sent a subconscious message to Harry.
Dear Harry, if you really want to compete with me for the 1st position in English strikers’ ranking, please have in mind the following: I was able to refuse Manchester United (and - notwithstanding I didn’t play for a big team - I scored 260 goals), now what about you and the Real Madrid bells?
Real Madrid stays at the window... and Alan as well, launching his challenge to be still remembered as the highest prolific Engish striker.
